Class and assignment reminders

Students get timely reminders based on class and assignment dates in the LMS, and notifications stop for assignments already submitted.

Problem

Students forget class times and assignment deadlines, and the teacher has to message each group separately.

How it works today

The teacher or coordinator writes reminders by hand in the group chat. The message also reaches students who already submitted, and some groups get no reminder at all.

What this scenario changes

When a class or deadline event in the LMS approaches, the matching students and group are identified, the reminder rule (time, channel, submission status) is checked, and a notification is sent from a template. The sending status is logged in the LMS.

The process step by step

  1. LMS event: 24 hours left until the deadline
  2. Students and group matched: Students the assignment applies to
  3. Reminder rule: Submission status, channel, notification preference
  4. Is a reminder needed?: The assignment is not yet submitted
  5. Notification sent: Using an approved template
  6. Status logged: Notification history in the LMS

Exception path

  1. Notification stopped: Note on the teacher’s dashboard
  2. Nothing sent: The event is closed

The role of AI

This scenario does not use AI. Notifications are sent from approved templates, which keeps messages predictable.

Human approval and exceptions

If the assignment has already been submitted, no notification is sent; the teacher’s dashboard only shows a “no reminder needed” note.

Frequently asked questions

Can students turn reminders off?

Yes. The student’s notification preference is checked before every send; if it is off, no message goes out.

Can reminders be sent via WhatsApp too?

Yes, if the student has consented to that channel and approved message templates are in place.

What happens if a class is canceled?

When a class is canceled in the LMS, its scheduled reminders are stopped too.
